Situated on a picturesque gorge New Ashford was first settled in 1762 and later incorporated in 1782. Phoebe Johnson, a resident of Brodie Mountain, was the first woman to cast her vote after the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.
The Green River flows through it. With not much arable land the town’s economy relies on tourism which began as early as 1889. It today has a flourishing winter recreation industry. Saddle Ball and Brodie Mountain offer spectacular views and good skiing.
