Profile
Located 1, 200 feet above sea level, Monterey is largely a resort town, It was incorporated in 1847. The Massachusetts legislature laid it out in 1735 to protect the Appalachian Trail which connected the Housatonic Valley with the Connecticut Valley. The town split from Tyringham in 1847.
Lake Garfield, named after the President who often fished here, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the area. Famous for its camping and angling. Bidwell House build in 1750 for Reverend Bidwell, Monterey’s first minister, is now a museum.
