Bidwell House Museum
Built in 1750 for Reverend Bidwell, Monterey’s first minister, this gracious saltbox home, set in 190 acres, showcases the times in which he lived. It was restored and established as a museum in 1990 by Jack Hargis and David Brush.
The Appalachian Trail
This 2,100 mile foot trail passes close by. It was designated as the first Scenic National trail in 1968. The Trail stretches from Katadin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia. Passing through some of the best forest land in the country, the Trail is strictly for hiking. It was conceived in 1921 by Benton McKaye. The Trail passes over Mt Greylock and Mt Everett and through the Housatonic Valley.
Lake Garfield
This 262-acre lake is well stocked with perch and trout. Offers boating and swimming in summer.
Beartown State Forest
Offers pristine woodland for campers and hikers in summer. Benedict pond within its precincts attracts boaters, swimmers and anglers. In winter it turns into a cross country skier’s paradise.
