Profile
This quiet and beautiful rural town was founded in the 1760s and incorporated in 1804. Israel Bissell, a Revolutionary War hero, once lived here. There used to be a flourishing textile industry here in the late 1800s. Hinsdale today is home to the environmentally critical Hinsdale Flats Watershed Resource Area.
Today, the town is a favorite residential and holiday destination. Lake Ashmere and Plunkett Lake offer summer camps. The Appalachian Trail passed through Hinsdale. Noted sculptor and painter John Stritch lives here today.
