First settled in 1762, this quiet rural town was incorporated in 1776. It has the largest and finest ski area in Massachusetts in Jiminy Peak. Hancock is the longest and narrowest town in the Berkshires. The economy relies on tourism and agriculture. It also offers one of finest education systems in the country.
The home of noted author and artist John James Audubon has been preserved as a museum in Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary.
