The Hoosac Tunnel
An engineering marvel of its time, the Hoosac Train Tunnel runs for 4.75 miles connecting North Berkshire with the east. It was built in 1875 and cost more than $21million. One of the earliest ever-developed tunnel boring machines was used in its construction. The Tunnel took 20 years to build, overcoming many stumbling blocks. Two hundred lives were lost in its construction.
The Mohawk Trail
Originally used by the Mohawk Indians, this trail passes through some of the most picturesque terrain. It runs for 65 miles connecting Greenfield with Williamstown. The modern trail was officially opened on October 22, 1914.
