Twons-Clarksburg

Profile

Founded in 1769 and incorporated in 1798, this largely residential community nestles in scenic landscape. An explosion in 1869 at the powder mill put an end to the manufacture of gunpowder in Clarksburg. Cashmere was also produced here in the 19th century.

Forty-two per cent of the land here is protected recreational space. The Clarksburg State Park attracts a lot of outdoor enthusiasts. The famous Appalachian Trail passes through it.
